Me and the kid each got a new laptop a while back, two different brands, in the same week. Right at the 2 year mark, right after the warranties ended, they both had hinges break on the screen/cover/lid.

I replaced the kid's case myself, the plastic at the hinges had deteriorated completely.

Is this the new reality, or was it an amazing coincidence we experienced hinge failure on two different brands in the exact same time span?

BTW: new laptop, 1500. New top part of the case that holds the screen, $40 and less than an hour of being awesome.

I don't think it's a conspiracy theory anymore than corporations want your old stuff to fail.

But the hinge on both at two years is just a coincidence. That'd be impossible to make happen.

Sure, but that laptop used to be $3k, and $5k adjusted for inflation.
It's not me, it's someone else.

Correct.

There's a gear in garage door openers that used to be metal and never wore out. Now they're plastic and a super common service call.
