Wrong and wrong.

The articles yielded by that search seem to have a reserved tone.
Sounds like not all grains are evil.
Sounds like they've sort of identified some common patterns, but are sort of completely fucking lost. I simply find it difficult to believe that foodstuffs we've spent generations breeding to perfection are ultimately killing us.
Sounds very genetically predisposed, whatever it is.

Other cereals such as maize (corn), millet, sorghum, teff, rice, and wild rice are safe for patients to consume...
Coeliac disease appears to be polyfactorial, both in that more than one genetic factor can cause the disease and that more than one factor is necessary for the disease to manifest in a patient.

Over 95% of coeliac patients have the isoform of DQ2 or DQ8, which is inherited in families.

Well, finally got back on the horse... last year January was 245. This January was back up to 231. I'm now at 215.
So far:
Eating 1400 net calories per day (calories in minus exercise)
Exercising 5-7 hours per week (mostly biking/elliptical)
Breakfast - 2 eggs, 3-4 pieces of bacon, 1 slice of cheese, all on a honey wheat bagel. Very filling. No lunch crash (650 calories). No OJ
Lunch - Usually a McDonalds salad with "crispy" chicken (500 calories)
Dinner - Normal dinner if I work out, otherwise Adkins shake.
One day a week I overeat. This seems to keep me losing weight at a decent rate, keeping the metabolism up. Usually this day is a Saturday.
I've been losing a consistent 2lbs a week.

On rest days I eat 1880 - 1900 calories. Example:
Brunch: 2 bacon, 2 eggs, banana
Supper: 6-10 oz Meat (steak, pork, hamburger), some vegetables
Snack: handful of almonds, whey protein smoothie
Target macros are 70g carb, 95g fat, 180g protein
On lift days (3 times x week), I pretty much just eat what I want. Which works out to the same stuff, but with an extra one or two hundred grams of carbs from sweet potatoes or white rice, and some milk. Looking for starch more than sugar.

Well, I've re-hit the big 4-0, maybe this time I'll be able to keep it off?
So last year I lost 40 pounds, took a new job, and gained 30 of them back. I've now lost those 30 and 3 other pounds, so down 43 total. My original goal was 45 pounds lost (200). My new goal is 65 pounds, which would put me back to college / last 2 years of high school weight (180).
So... 22 more to go.
This time, I've entered 3 weight loss competitions. 1 at work with 5 other people, and 2 online. The online ones pay a total of $400 if I get my BMI below 25 (The goal above = 4 pounds below a 25 BMI). It's staged into two goals, and I hit the first one if I just lose 2 more pounds, and I have almost 2 more months to do that., I have until January 2013 to hit the BMI goal.

Penn and Teller's Bullshit, Season 5, Episode 1 ... I think. It's a shitty guide. You may notice none of this dude's qualifications include: biologist, nutritionist, biochemist, etc. You may also note that's the dude who invented the shitty guide in question.

Oddly enough, that doesn't change your height.
At any rate, here's the suggested guidelines for body fat %:
Description Women Men
Essential fat 10–13% 2–5%
Athletes 14–20% 6–13%
Fitness 21–24% 14–17%
Average 25–31% 18–24%
Obese 32%+ 25%+
18 to 24 % may be "average" for men, but that's still overweight.

Feels like I plateaued in May, but looking back I still lost a pound a week. 46 pounds lost now, just got under 200 (199). Goal 175ishTheCatt wrote:Well, I've re-hit the big 4-0, maybe this time I'll be able to keep it off?

I'm officially past the first weight loss competition target. so as long as I don't gain weight in 4 weeks, I suck $150.
