Probably barking up the wrong tree, but I'll bring it up anyway.
In the market for a new refrigerator.
Wife wants: stainless steel, preferable the kind Frigidaire makes that is smudgeless and allows magnet to stick to it (basically NOT stainless steel, but looks like it). She wants the kind with the freezer on the bottom.
I want: an ice maker in the door, and at least 26 cubic feet of storage. Cleaning smudges is women's work.
The problem is, every review for the Frigidaires I have seen are all AVOID THIS BRAND, WE ARE ON THE 5TH ICE MAKER IN 3 MONTHS sort of things. Poor ice maker engineering seem to be a common problem in modern refrigerators.
So, what's the best fridge you can get for under $3k?
Refrigerators
Whirlpool is a good brand.
We purchased a Whirlpool stainless steel french door (dual doors and freezer on bottom) fridge last year, and it's great. I think we bought it from Lowes, and it was under 2K or right around it. No problems to date.
Also, forget about the stainless steel-ish paint job. I forget the exact reasons, but companies were going away from it. If I remember, it's virtually impossible to match the actual color from one appliance to the next if you go that route, and it was turning a lot of consumers off.
Just go stainless steel. It's current, it looks good, and the smudges and finger prints are not an issue. Perhaps my wife cleans the fridge daily, and I don't know about it, but I've never noticed massive smudges all over the fridge, and my rug rats are in and out of that thing all day.

I wonder if she would notice it doesn't match exactly if I don't mention it.
Terrible idea.
Here's what will happen:
You'll take it home. She'll notice right after you can't return it. She'll hate it and bitch about it for the next decade.
Oh, and I apologize, we have a Maytag. Also a good brand.
When I was researching fridges, I saw the same stuff about Fridgidares. Maytag, Whirlpool, etc. were all highly rated. The best was Samsung, but they are brand new on the market, so we were weary about jumping in with their "first gen" fridges. They also have the biggest price tags.

There was one awesome Samsung that I want because it has a frikkin computer in the door above the ice maker.

Yeah, a few have bar code scanners so it'll actively create a grocery list for you.
I saw a few with TVs.
My wife loved the crisper drawers on the samsungs because they're perfect for the kids. You can throw their snacks and drinks in there and teach them to use that drawer only. We have that drawer, but it's not accessible externally like in that picture.

Yes, we had the same thought for Will's snacks. The internal ones were cool too, but you have to open both doors to get it open. Not that it is a show stopper.Leisher wrote:My wife loved the crisper drawers on the samsungs because they're perfect for the kids.
