Sister in law wants to prevent some of the people in her office from getting on facebook. I went into Internet Options and looked through IE and entered facebook in the Restricted field but it is still allowing me to go to the page so that doesn't do what I thought it would.
I want to avoid buying or downloading anything if it is possible. Even the most basic solution will work because the people using the PC have no knowledge.
It just has to be more then her saying "Stay off of facebook."
I want to block website in IE.
That blocks it for everyone right? Since she and her boss don't abuse it(at least they think they don't) they want it block at 2 specific PCs.
I found a solution that has me editing the file
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
and then putting in the addresses. I can do that but since these are a companies PCs I wanted to avoid editing files and such if I could.

Some routers can do ip bans by ip address/range, some cannot. So if you have static IPs, it could work. But most places do DHCP.
hosts file is a decent alternative, just put a dummy addy in so it can't resolve.
Another option is for your SIL to actually talk to the employees.

It's not me, it's someone else.
If you can't shut it down at the router level, you're pretty much left doing it on the individual machine.WSGrundy wrote:That blocks it for everyone right? Since she and her boss don't abuse it(at least they think they don't) they want it block at 2 specific PCs.

Trying to do it on each individual machine. Several sites have told me to open c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and then add the following to the file.

OK... I just tested that fix.
Did you make sure that (if you're using notepad for instance), that you didn't save it as hosts.txt?
It worked for me in Chrome, FireFox, and IE.
I had FF open already, and did have to restart it, but it worked after that.
