Religious Holidays

Post by GORDON »

I wonder why no one (besides the chinese when they keep their restaurants open on christmas for the jews) ever schedules their non-X religious people to work on the X-religion holidays.

I was thinking how my trash pickup will be a day late this week, because they won't be picking up on christmas. It occurs to me they may have plenty on non-christian employees willing to work that day.... because not picking up trash on wednesday means they will pick it up on saturday, a normal day-off. They don't get actual hours off, they need to make them up another day.

So why not ask their employee pool, if any are willing to work the holiday? Give the christians Dec 25 off, if they want. But then when Diwali comes around, the Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists get a nice day off. No disruptions. Everything still open and functioning. Everyone happy, religiouos freedom and harmony across the land.

Or not. If your place of bidness doesn't have enough diversity to stay open on the religious holidays, then cool, you close up chop for the day. NBD.

But some of us dislike the world shutting down for holidays we don't care about, bah humbug.

They're hourly, not salary? Ours are salary.
It's not me, it's someone else.

I don't know. We don't have municipal trash pickup where I live, we have 3 big private companies to choose from, and a few "uncle bob with a pickup truck" services.

I pay less than my city gf does because my company isn't a monopoly in my area.
