"If it requires the labor of others, it isn't a basic human right."

Discuss.

What's to discuss? That statement is correct.

It's a pretty common sentiment that health care is a basic human right. Yet that requires labor of healers.

Been pondering this one as I fought with AT&T today.

I think the phrase "basic human rights" needs to be examined. In reality, the only basic human right is to exist without the interference of others. That's it. Exist. Hunt. Fish. Breath. Make fire and a camp. Drink water. Don't fuck with anyone else or their shit and vice versa.

Now, if the phrase "basic societal rights" existed, then we could discuss what that would entail.

Hunting + fishing impacts other people's ability to hunt + fish. Making a fire impacts other people's ability to breathe. Camping impacts their options for camping. Pooping + peeing impacts their water...

I'm not sure what any of these have to do with forced labor.

Not necessarily, but let's take your negative Nancy thought process to its natural conclusion. Because the mere act of existing impacts other people, there is no such thing as basic human rights.

To be fair to him, he's never stopped trying.

I have ZERO issue with our conclusion. So, let's move the goal posts.

What are "basic societal rights"? Also, shouldn't they be earned and not given?

Sure, let's keep you alive, but you need to do something for us. Like, get a job and don't commit crime.
