25% wage increase. 1.9% loss of jobs. Not a disaster, National Review, but we know the NR doesn't care about facts, just their ideology.

Sounds familiar.
FYI, I just grabbed an article, there are lots more out there (all sparked by a study that was done), but it's hard to find it on a left leaning site because it's anti-left politics. Not a lot of CNN reporters do follow ups on how left policies are going. (Same for right outlets and policies.)
You'd think if it was such a massive win they'd all be picking up on it.

Sure, but there has to be a non-opinion piece about it. Though I googled it and couldn't find anything immediately that was recent.
Prices seems to be up no more than 10% (worst case per WSJ article). Again, not bad against a 25% wage increase.

I would the actual study was the non-opinion piece, but that could be from a RW thinktank.
10% for everyone versus 25% for a small minority of workers. Is that good? I genuinely don't know.

Only "everyone" who shops at that one store that went up 10%, and when they shop there.

Prices are up across the board, but as I posted earlier (weeks ago), many of the biggest chains are already moving to kiosks. Not to mention we've seen the automated restaurants being tested and the ones where cashiers are outsourced to India.
Most FF jobs will be eliminated, it was coming no matter what, but this wage increase sped up the clock.

I'm fine with those jobs going away. I mean, everything evolves.
However, I'm not ok with the wage increase still, mainly because I don't think there's a long term plan in place to help the people that get replaced. I don't think there was ever any thought into what happens next, and it was mainly pushed for political reasons.

Yay, they increased the minimum wage of fast food workers.
And now there will be no fast food jobs left. Great work, government! You're helping!

Worth pondering that back in the day fast food was considered to be a teenager practice job, but then it suddenly became a career with a living wage full of people raising families, and now young people have no idea how to work at real jobs?

Well, who woulda guessed, The partisan numbers were a lie.Leisher wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 10:23 am Let's check in on CA now that we're a bit removed from the minimum wage hike.
Not going great.
Here's something you might want to know about this claim. It's baloney, sliced thick. In fact, from September through January, the period covered by the ad, fast-food employment in California has gone up, as tracked by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Federal Reserve. The claim that it has fallen represents a flagrant misrepresentation of government employment figures.
Something else the ad doesn't tell you is that after January, fast-food employment continued to rise. As of April, employment in the limited-service restaurant sector that includes fast-food establishments was higher by nearly 7,000 jobs than it was in April 2023, months before Newsom signed the minimum wage bill.

Ha!
Yeah, I saw that piece on Twitter last night and people were shredding it for lies and misrepresentations. Who woulda guessed, the other side's story is bullshit too.
It's one of the worst times in history to open a restaurant anywhere in the country. CA is losing residents. Rubio's closes 48 locations throughout the state. The Wall St. model has lead to companies trimming fat everywhere for years. Cracker Barrel, Wendy's, McDonald's, BK, Chipotle, and every other major restaurant name you can think of has announced the closing of restaurants in CA. Many of those chains are intentionally closing CA locations because of the high cost of running them. That previously mentioned pizza chain (Wow or something?) closed all of its doors the minute the wage went up. There's a page dedicated to LA restaurant closures this year alone and an article from the same paper listing why LA restaurants are struggling so badly. There's also one about SD.
But yeah, I'm sure they added 7K jobs... I guess restaurants are celebrating their paper thin margins getting even thinner by hiring a bunch of people. Or maybe they're opening a boatload of new restaurants to fit the needs of their declining population.
Here's a different, less partisan take.
“What we're seeing right now is, I think, unfortunately, the beginning of a trend in restaurant closures,” said Jot Condie, president and CEO of the California Restaurant Association.
He said a newly effective California law is impacting businesses, workers and consumers alike.
“When you have a cost spike overnight to $4 an hour, per employee per hour, that's pretty difficult when you're talking about an industry that's 3-5% profit margin on average,” Condie said.

Hmmm. Apparently there is baloney being passed out in the election year when they're trying to make us forget the president has a brain going swiss cheese from Alzheimer's.
I'm glad EYE am not responsible for getting that invalid reelected. I'd be going crazy.
