"Major" is being used loosely, I assume.

My guess is Sideshow Bob.

Going Grandpa Simpson or Smithers.

I say no to sideshow bob because that is the only voice Kelsey Grammer does. I would guess that it is a character that the voice actor does several other voices. With the Simpsons that basically everyone besides Lisa. So I have no real idea.

Why is this show still on?

Yes, the Simpsons have come a long way since an old drunk made humans out of his rabbit characters to pay off his gambling debts. Who knows what adventures they'll have between now and the time the show becomes unprofitable?

Go back and read the clue given.

"The person won an emmy for playing this character." or something to that effect. That seems a bit too specific to me. Who else does the voice for only one character that could be considered "major"?

"Simpsons" fanatics will know that this hint doesn't exactly narrow things down: Nearly every member of the core ensemble of voice-over performers has won an Emmy, including Dan Castellaneta (Homer, Barney, Krusty), Julie Kavner (Marge, Patty, Selma), Hank Azaria (Apu, practically everyone else on the show), Nancy Cartwright (Bart) and Yeardley Smith (Lisa).

Even a few guest stars have picked up Emmys for "Simpsons" appearances, including Anne Hathaway for voicing Princess Penelope and Kelsey Grammer for Sideshow Bob.

In other words, pretty much anyone could go.

It'll be someone voiced by Dan Castalanetta, Hank Azaria, or Harry Shearer. That's just playing the odds.

"I’ll give a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won’t say who it is."

Emphasis mine.

Emmy wins for voice-over work w\ characters:
Nancy Cartwright Bart Simpson
Dan Castellaneta Homer Simpson
Julie Kavner Marge Simpson
Yeardley Smith Lisa Simpson
Marcia Wallace Edna Krabappel
Hank Azaria Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Hank Azaria Various Characters
Dan Castellaneta Various Characters

You can eliminate the main family members off the top. Maybe they kill off Krabappel.

I still go with Hank or
In addition to Moe, Wiggum and Apu, Azaria provides the voices of the Comic Book Guy, Carl Carlson, Cletus Spuckler, Professor Frink, Dr. Nick Riviera, Lou, Snake, Kirk Van Houten, the Sea Captain, Superintendent Chalmers, Disco Stu, Duffman, the Wiseguy and numerous other one-time characters.

Dan.
Noted for his long-running role as Homer Simpson on the animated television series The Simpsons, he voices many other characters on The Simpsons, including Abraham "Grampa" Simpson, Barney Gumble, Krusty the Clown, Groundskeeper Willie, Mayor Quimby and Hans Moleman.

Problem is there are so many goddamned characters to pick from. Since Mr. Burns is off the table (Harry Shearer), I'd call Grandpa, Krusty, Willie, Quimby, Groundskeeper Willie in order of most likely death.

I think you are reading to much into the "that character" part. Maybe I am wrong. I just think that if they are removing someone it is more dickish and less likely to take away the only character someone does voices for instead of 1 of the 934,038 that Hank Azaria does.

Maybe Krustys father but again I don't really know what major character means. That of course means they are killing the one character Jackie Mason does. So who the hell knows.

I'm going with Duff Man for the 20 mins.

Less than 20 min.

I am going with Edna also. They already killed Neds wife so why not his girlfriend. Then maybe Bart moves to the 5th grade. But again thats her only voice so who the hell knows!

Remember, they killed off Flanders' wife and she was the only character for the woman who voiced her.

I thought this was going to be the final season, which is why I picked Sideshow, but perhaps it will be someone with multiple voices.

If that's the case, look for someone whose voice causes a strain, ala Beavis and Butthead.

No.
Maggie Roswell (born November 14, 1952) is an American film and television actress and voice artist from Los Angeles, California. She is well known for her voice work on the Fox network's animated television series The Simpsons, in which she has played recurring characters such as Maude Flanders, Helen Lovejoy, Miss Hoover, and Luann Van Houten, as well as several minor characters. This work has earned her both an Emmy Award nomination and an Annie Award nomination.

She was Maude, then quit because Fox wouldn't offer her enough cash. They recast Maude with someone else (Marcia Mitzman Gaven) who also took over all the other vacant roles.

I thought this was going to be the final season

No.
In October 2011, Fox announced that The Simpsons had been renewed for a 24th and 25th season, which means the show will reach at least 559 episodes.

They just started season 25, so expect Fox to renew their shit until Troy McClure's quote holds true.

Her leaving is why I heard they killed Mrs. Flanders and did it in such a...shitty...way.
