Yes, prequelS. Two of them to be exact.
Before you throw up your hands in disgust the guy bringing them to the screen is Ridley Scott who says he wants these films to trump Avatar. (Cameron made Aliens...Scott made Alien.)
An early rumor is that perhaps the Aliens are man made...
Here's hoping they don't go that cliche route.

So the Aliens, who are man-made, are the favoured prey of the Predators (an old-ass space-faring race), who hung around with ancient man ... ? Wtf?

It has evolved from an Alien "prequel" into its own movie, "Prometheus." It might still be a prequel, though. Ridley Scott directing, HR Giger doing sets, and the look of these stills from the set makes it look a shitload like Alien.
Probably spoilery, but honestly I can't see any context to these pics.

If you can get screen grabs of whatever that static is near the end in the credits. I couldn't time it right.

I used Keepvid.com to download the clip.
Then I viewed it with QuickTime player and just dragged the timeline bar to the static.
All three static points have nothing interesting.
The first is just fades to generic snow.
The second has a warp, like the VHS tape is adjusting, but no hidden image.
The third could be construed as blurry stars by conspiracy theorists, but no living or man made creature is obvious. I think it's just static with no hidden content.

Random YouTube comment in one of the Prometheus Trailers struck me as funny:
Since it's a prequel, and you know the world didn't end because of Aliens, why is one of the tag-lines for this movie 'what they discovered may be the end'?
I mean, it's right to a certain extent, but that's not why I want to watch, hopefully we get:
1. Evil corporate America pushing the envelope, causing problems (Space corporations!) (Did I mention I'm playing EVE again?)
2. Highly detailed alien world
3. Few, if any survivors.
4. Good Aliens
5. Someone saying "Game over, Man"
