Bleh. I'm a fan of many things Freddy but from Nightmare IV-VI, he wasn't remotely scary and it took Wes doing the script in VII to inject some real fright back into him.

Jackie Earle Haley is vaguely menacing as Freddy, but that's mainly due to the makeup job. Mr. Rogers would probably look freaky with those effects.

The dumb-ass teens take Freddy out using the exact same method from the original. They recreate more than a few of the kills from there as well, which make them seem derivative and uncreative.

In case you're not picking up on it, my major complaint is that there's not much in here that's any different from the original. Sure, it's new actors, slightly switched up settings, and a more current look and feel to the environment, but it's still the same old "parents burned a motherfucker alive and he's taking revenge on their kids in their dreams." There's nothing which warrants a, "Whoa, holy shit, what if [insert brilliant twist here] happened... we have to make this film to see where that leads."
