How a smart company would sell BDs of their shows

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Game of Thrones got me to thinking about this.

720P versions of each episode are available and easily and quickly downloaded from the internet. I don't have HBO because I don't want to pay what I think is an unfair price from my TV provider for a bundle of channels, but I was still watching this show the day after they aired.

I have every intention of purchasing the BD set of this season when it becomes available, whenever that is. If I die before the season is released, I obviously won't be buying it.

That being said, why don't they let me buy the BD set the week before the first episode of the season is shown. The BD set for the season that is about to air, I mean. With that purchase, I am allowed to watch streaming of the episode as it airs, and any time thereafter. The day the final episode of the season airs, they mail me my physical BD set for that season. This way they have my money early, I am not pirating, I am not sharing what I am downloading, and in the case I die before the season is over and they get around to releasing a BD set, I already bought it.

Why wont they let me give them money the way I want to? It benefits everyone.

Because they do not understand and are completely terrified.

Someday the old people in charge will die, and then things will be as you suggest. Or they go out of business. It's just a matter of time.
