The Herman Cain thread sparked this. Somebody asked me one time what my favorite movie was. I couldn't think of anything, so I said "The Longest Day." Which is a pretty damn good movie, with a great all-star cast. But is it my favorite? Dunno.

So I'm with Ron Paul. I mostly read books. I can tell you what my favorite book is (past and present).

That is a hard question since movie genres are so different and I have more than one "fave" depending on the genre, but my general, go-to answer for that question is Aliens.

I also have a favorite book and read a lot because I am capable of doing and enjoying more than one thing.

I can't pick a favorite. I can't even pick a top ten. I like a lot of movies.

I think we've done this before...

But, my favorite is Shawshank Redemption.

(OK, not quite this, but similar)

Having reread the review of The Thing in that thread, I may have to change my vote to The Thing.

But, I think Aliens does a lot of the same things correct that the The Thing reviewer pointed out. Even the "romance" aspect in Aliens is perfect, because it involves Ripley and a Space Marine flirting over high caliber weaponry, fixin to do battle with space aliens, and pretty much ends right there. And, Ripley works out her mothering instinct by going hand-to-hand with a big-ass queen alien.

And, in the end, they try to solve their problems not by talking them out, but by detonating a nuclear explosion.

I mean, come on. Best chick flick ever.
