Are they really THAT good?

Spider-man: $821 million
Spider-man 2: $783 million
Cost to make: $339 million (together)
So in the sense that matters to the ones making the decision... Yes.

I have enjoyed the previous films so if they want to make more I am for it.

Rumor is Bruce Campbell has a major role in 4.

Bruce playing either The Chameleon or Mysterio would be fantastic.
I think more casual folks would recognize Mysterio with his fish bowl helmet and green scaled costume.
The Chameleon would actually suck for Bruce because it'd be other actors playing him the whole film since The Chameleon essentially uses other people's faces. (Like the masks from "Mission: Impossible".)

Spiderman 4, dead in the water at the moment. "Script problems."

That means, "No one has an idea that doesn't suck, yet."

FYI, Spider-Man the Musical is also on hold.
And Anne Hathaway as Felicia Hardy? Uhm...no.
Here's Anne in all her glory:

Here's Felicia Hardy:

Shit, if they followed that logic, there wouldn't be any Spiderman flicks at all just yet.

They really lost me on the third one. When the Goblin became my favorite character in the film, it was time to call it.

Spider-Man 4 Canceled.
According to this article they're rebooting the entire franchise with an all new cast in May 2012.

Not a bad idea.

What's it been... 10 years since this franchise started?
I think it is too early to reboot, aesthetically. It's tacky. And just reminds me that Hollywood is about money, not art.

Instead of a reboot, I would prefer that they continue the story, just using different actors.
I'm getting sick of watching the same origin stories told over and over and over again.
And not all the actors need to be changed out. Roles like JJJ, Doc Ock, Dr. Curt Connors, Aunt May, etc. don't need to be recast due to age not affecting them as much as the 30-something actors trying to pull off post high school kids.

Oh sweet, now we can get the guy from Twilight to play Spidey.

Amen. There's only so many ways to tell a story you damn near know the ending to already.

Article on the new Spiderman 4.
Sony has taken a franchise that has made over a billion dollars in three movies and completely scraped it...Why?
So they can:
-Get rid of a director who loved and knows the source material. (He fought a lot of the stuff in Spiderman 3, like the inclusion of Venom.)
-Bring in a director with one feature film under his belt.
-Reduce the budget to $80 million.
-Drop the action and increase the amount of teen angst in the story because they want to tap into the "Twilight" audience.
This has massive failure written all over it.

Hmmm, I'm a relative unknown, and would be pretty cheap.

The touchstone for the new movie will not be the 1960s comics, which were the inspiration behind the movies by Raimi, who grew on up on them, but rather this past decade’s “Ultimate Spider-Man” comics ...
Goddamnit. Not like I was holding out any hope for this flick not to suck, but damn, I might even avoid the previews for this thing now.
