Stuck with Hackett may be my favorite new show. At least the first episode was brilliant. I hope the series continues to be this good. Hackett is this artist guy that works with junk to make cool stuff. He's a little bit arty sometimes, but mostly he's more of a scrap engineer and it's extremely interesting so far.
This episode he's out in the Mojave Desert all alone (except a camera crew, of course) in the summer and it's 115 in the shade. Like Survivorman or Bear Grills he must live off of what he can find. But unlike them this doesn't mean eating bugs or chewing on special roots. No. He finds an old abandoned hotel. With unopened unbulging mystery canned goods so he has food. And an old busted soda machine with hot sodas so he has liquids. So survival should be easy.
But like any rational modern person he's not really just wanting to survive, he wants to be comfortable. Without any sort of electrical power his goal is to build an air conditioner to cool one of the rooms and make some ice for his hot soda. He does exactly that using scrap parts in ingenious ways. And it works so well you'd worry he might get frostbite.
Give this one a watch and see if you like it. If you're like me you'll want to bring a pad of paper and take notes. This sort of skill set will be incredibly valuable after the zombie apocalypse.
