So all along they've been telling us it's a Sci Fi show. And we've been moving from the apparently supernatural to possible scientific oddities. And then we had a season of time travel. And now alternate timelines.
I think in the end, it'll turn out to have all been about aliens from the beginning. Aliens that are stuck here, and at least one of them wants to leave.
Any advanced technology we don't understand will appear as the supernatural, after all.

Further, I bet in the alternate timeline we'll see all the people we've been watching (the ones that keep getting written on lists) we'll find that those people are responsible for some event, something that led to those aliens being stuck here.
Or if it's not aliens, then whatever it is this still holds. If events had unfolded without intervention, bad things happen, and we'll see it in the alternate timeline. And it's been all about stopping that from happening, changing the future by changing the past.

Yeah, I'm a bit irked that when this all started they claimed that everything would have a scientific explanation. It's not a game ender for me, but it has taken some of the steam out of the show for me.
I have no clue what's going on with the alternate timelines. You might be right about aliens. I don't get how "It worked.", yet we're still seeing both outcomes at the same time. The mere fact that she was in Sawyer's arms saying it worked proved that both are actually happening. So they lost me there.
Also, did anyone pick up on the MASSIVE contradiction in their script writing regarding death? Remember last season when it was a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE deal on the show that nobody comes back from the dead? The whole season was about Ben killing Locke (How they've handled Locke is probably the most disappointing thing about the whole series. Remember when he was a bad ass? How did he go from that to spiritual warrior to suicidal pussy that gets choked out by a scrawny little twerp?) and then Ben wondering how Locke was walking around again. Now Sayid is walking around after having died.
And if that's not enough of a contradiction for you, let's not forget that Jack's dad has been dead during the entire 6 seasons yet is walking around on the island just fine.

That's not Christian Shepard. And whatever it is, it's just using Sayid's body. Similar to the way John Locke is walking around.

I'm watching the last season with my girlfriend. I intentionally never started watching it when it was all the buzz because I knew the idea pool was too limited and sooner or later they'd have to jump the shark.
So I see the recap of the previous 5 seasons and see they introduced time travel at some point.
So I was right.

So far they've handled the time travel pretty well. And there's hints that there's been time travel from the very beginning, and we only got to see it clearly starting in season five.
There's still the potential for them to pull it all together really well. Only time will tell.

Off the cuff, I can think of four TV shows that should have had time travel. Dr. Who, Quantum Leap, Sliders and Voyagers.
