Minor spoilers galore
The cover for the remake of Day of the Dead shows a zombie projectile vomiting. This must've been his reaction shot upon seeing the film.
This movie is bad on Ed Wood levels. Seriously.
This resembles the original Day of the Dead in that they share the same name. That's it.
The creators of this abomination have taken it upon themselves to rewrite the rules of zombies yet again. The zombies here became zombies via an airborne virus. Those immune, which was apparently a lot of people, will become zombies upon being bitten. How long that takes varies on how much suspense the film makers need in a scene. The zombies themselves are the super fast, super strong, ultra aggressive variety that seem to be more popular lately. It gets worse in that they retain some of their brains and skills. So now we have super fast, super strong, ultra aggressive smart zombies that use tools and have basic problem solving skills. But it gets worse... Zombie Spider-Man and Zombie Flash make appearances in this film. I don't mean the costumes either. I mean zombies with their actual abilities.
One other rule of zombies they're added is that fire now has the same effect on zombies as sunlight on vampires.
You know how all the ads promote the hell out of Ving Rhames being in the film? Well, I'll say this: back when Field of Dreams became a huge hit, I remember seeing another baseball movie at my local video store with Kevin Kostner prominently featured on the cover. As it turns out, he's in the film for the opening 5 minutes and that's it. Ving has a similar role here.
While, we're discussing Ving, let me just say that the people behind the making of this film must've had dirt on everyone involved to get them to do this piece of shit. Steve Miner, who directed it, has done some good films previously. Ving Rhames and Mena Suvari are above this sort of thing. Hell, so is Nick Cannon, who is just beyond terrible in this film.
This is a good time to mention that this film also gets in its Hollywood mandated scenes showing nobody in Hollywood even has a remote understanding of how the military operates. This isn't a "They don't understand official procedures" criticism. This is "Holy shit, I cannot believe they think the military, hell REAL PEOPLE, act like this, no wonder their political beliefs are so far out in left field" criticism. Hint: Actual military personnel do NOT approach their new commanding officer and instead of saluting, hit on her and talk about how they heard she hooked up with someone. Hint: Actual military personnel carry weapons, particularly when on a mission, even communications people. Hint: Military officers are not told they can carry a gun, but not a loaded one. If an officer couldn't carry a weapon, they'd be under psych review, not in the field on a mission. Those hints are just for starters. There's about 8 billion more things wrong in this film that I just don't have the energy to track down and point out.
I wasn't kidding when I said "Ed Woods levels", but I should point out that it's mostly for the script. The writer of this insult to the human race cannot have an IQ over 90. There is no possible way someone could be smarter than that and still write this monstrosity.
I'm not sure what this guy got paid for writing this, but everything above "Free" was too much.
Everyone involved in the making of this film should be ashamed of themselves. This should only be viewed in the same way as Plan 9 from Outer Space is viewed.
