Project... will center on the early days of seminal "Trek" characters James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, including their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and first outer space mission.

I'm gussing Shatner & Nimoy won't be playing Kirk & Spock. It'll be interesting to see who they cast.

It's like there are no other stories worth telling in the entire alpha quadrant.

More Info

Rick Berman really did fuck up Star Trek.

For those that watched Enterprise if was evident how bad they fucked up that show with the "Temporal Cold War" premise and the whole Xindi escapade.

Enterprise was a good idea and might have been successful provided they had done two things.
1. Fuck UPN. Enterprise must have moved slots at least 3 times in the 3 years it was on. To make matters worse b/c UPN is carried by local channels Enterprise was preempted all the time for whatever sports event, infomerical, charity, parade etc. that was on. Then it was shown at like 2:00 am on Satuday
This was not a problem when Star Trek TNG was on FOX, b/c unlike UPN, FOX has its own dedicated channel.

2. If they had used the tons of material available from the other Trek series and the 100+ books that have been written. They could have explained the beginning of the Federation, the war with the Klingons and Romulans, the formation of the Neutral zone, etc. They started to do this at the end of the third season but it was half ass and too late by then.

I have a buddy who works at a production company out in Hollywood. He also writes screenplays/stories as well. He submitted 3 scripts to Enterprise the first year it was on. Each script dealt with earlier Star Trek aliens and origins. He had numerous meetings with the production company including the bigwigs and they ended up not buying his scripts b/c they said they already had storylines like his. Suffice to say they didn't or at least they never made any of the stories.
Talking to my buddy he said Rick Berman was a real control freak and only would use scripts from himself or his inner circle. Also he had his own vision of Star Trek which led to the downfall of the series.

I guess there were no unknown actors in Hollywood looking for work, today. They had to bring in someone with tons of baggage to play an iconic character. That's some smart movie making, right there.

Damon is 35 and playing the young Kirk.

Shattner was 35 when he began playing Kirk.

What the fuck?

If they take this thing really "Hollywood", Spock will be black.

Maybe it's time to invest in Bollywood.

And what are the studios in England that produce things like Shaun of the Dead, Snatch, Trainspotting, etc?

Matt's not a horrible choice. I'm sure there are much better choices, but it's not a deal breaker for me. I think he could do a good enough job at it.

Ben as Spock, though, that makes me twitch.

I vote Heydon Christiansen as Spock (Annikin Skywalker... whatever his name was), but I'm not sure if Heydon can produce the emotion that Spock requires.

How about Keanu?

"Spock, how are we...going to get...out of this fight with the...Klingons?"

"Relax, I know kung fu."

Eh, I'll watch it. Gotta be better than the old cast odd-numbered films. And nothing could be worse than Generations was.
