A boy commits a heinous crime and is institutionalized. Many years later, in the process of being transferred to a new facility he escapes and goes on a killing spree. Meanwhile, his father, the town sheriff is hunting him down.

I was really bored by this movie because of the obvious twist that literally chases the action. I've seen this before, ho hum.

But kudos to the filmmakers for the real twist. It was excellently crafted, and they use the first one as a fantastic red herring. They pull it off despite putting a question out there that the audience knows it must get answered.

However, as good as the twist is, they take it a step too far when they try to tie everything together.

When you bring a story full circle, you'd better make sure it's air tight. In this case, it wasn't. They tried to get too cute at the end. They should have ended the film a minute earlier and left out the final "reveal" because it ripped a massive logic hole in their story.

Also, I don't mind being faked out in a film. In fact, I encourage it. However, please have the fake outs make sense. I want to explain this further, but I can't without spoilers. I will just say that they showed me things that, if the story made sense, I wouldn't have seen them.

This is a tough movie to recommend. Not because it's a suckfest, but because it might piss you off. Really. Not because the story is so powerful, although the subject matter is easily one of the worst crimes, but because...well, the plot device used here has pissed audiences off in the past.

So I leave it to the viewer. If you like giving any horror title (Although, I'm not even sure this can be classified a horror. Based on the end, it's more of a drama.) a chance, I'd say rent it and you're guaranteed to see something different, but not in an odd way.

5 out of 10. (You'll either enjoy the twist or hate it.)

Side note: Had they ended it a minute earlier, I would have given it a 6. It still would contain the plot device known to piss off audiences, but it wouldn't have created a logic hole in the plot.
