An Italian horror film released here under the Ghost House brand.
The story follows a young woman as she ends up at a house in the woods inhabited by a family of killers and freaks.
Go any deeper into the plot and it falls apart really, really badly. In fact, the entire premise of the family's actions is explained upon extremely shaky logic. Some things, like certain members' deformities are never explained. Other characters' motivations are also never explained and make very little sense.
To say this is not a well written film would be an understatement.
The worst moment, and this is a spoiler as if anyone reading this cares...Imagine that your family has been murdered by this family. You are kept alive for years, but they have cut off your limbs for food. The person mainly responsible comes to you and hugs you. Do you smile and really get into the hug?
The acting is both good at times and laughable at times. The lead actress being the best actor in the film, with the leader of the gang being the worst.
The makers also made no bones about the level of gore they wanted in the film, as their main set where a lot of the killing occurs is literally completely covered in plastic.
Additionally, the filmmakers didn't seem sure about what they wanted of their female lead. There is a sex scene early on where they're showing her reaction to having sex doggystyle. Later some guys are attempting to rape her and they show her getting forced to take unbutton and unzip a guy's pants before she has to blow him. However, at no point is there any nudity whatsoever.
It was very odd. The girl is attractive and does strip to her bra a lot, but the choice to get so graphic with the sex, but not have nudity was interesting.
I don't know, maybe that's only interesting from a filmmaking point of view, but it made me wonder if the actress would only agree to the acts, but not to nudity.
Bad lighting and odd camera angles reign supreme throughout the film as well. Including insanely bad camera angles in certain car scenes that have two men driving while talking inches from one each other's faces.
I will say this about the film, they did a really good job with special effects.
Overall, this is not a good film. Unless you're a horror guy who has to see everything, skip it.
3 out of 10.
