This is a series I remember mentioning on whatever iteration of forum we had 8 years ago, and peeps here generally scoffed at it and dismissed it as a "Rings" ripoff.

Well screw y'all.

I've already burned through the first 5-book cycle of The Belgariad, I'm in the second book of the second 5-book series, I have Belgarath the Sorcerer, Polgara the Sorceress, and The Rivan Codex to get through after I'm through The Mallorean, and this is a perfectly good way to spend about 4k (guessing) pages of light reading. Great characters, well-defined world, and just a good story overall.

It's great to read stuff like this every decade or so, when you've forgotten most of the details.

Screw you for judging me.

Isn't this the "Cold War meets Tolkien" thing?

No idea. Fantasy, a quest, interesting characters, a well-fleshed-out world with a history.

Just finished the second 5-book series. Just so very excellent.

Going to have to drag the next and final 3 books with me to California... and I have them in hardcover. Sigh. But I'm still looking forward to another couple thousand pages of goodness.

It's great to find a great book and reread it every 10 years, or so, after you've forgotten the details. It's like finding an old love and reliving the passion. Or something.
