Goddamnit. They wasted Jet Li in the last one.

Agreed.

They need to stop. They needed to stop after the second one for sure.

Yeah, the first two were great, but I hated the second two.

Rumor has it that the original screenwriter from part 1 is back though, so maybe that'll save this one.

Nevermind! Mel doesn't want to do it.

Yeah, but he's leaving the door open to doing it, just not now.

As bad as the last two sucked, I almost think Mel and Danny need this film. If, by some remote chance, it was good, it could restore the franchise's image. Also, if could restore both of their careers...somewhat.

Something tells me the original screenwriter wants the last word on his shit cos he's pissed at the other two he wasn't involved in (not like 2 was cinema magic, but it beats the fuck outta 4).

Yeah, part 1 was a more gritty story with the laughs being "between the lines". 2 wasn't terrible, but it departed from the grit and replaced it with humor. The cast really carried the movie whose storyline was weak, but had characterization out the ying yang.

I assume a new one would be a mix of 1 and 2 if the original screenwriter got his way.

Usually when you see a writer come back to something he left, it's usually because he's either unemployed (which I don't think is the case here) or he wants to fix other people's mistakes on his creations.

Part of what made the first one so good was that Mel's character was so on the edge with nothing to live for. He found his redemption, then the second one was only marginally decent without that dynamic to the story.

I really don't recall much about the last two. Jet Li in one and some pro gun control message in the other one.

Maybe Mel heard some Jews were going to be involved in the production & so he backed out.
