Standard "aliens from outer space invade a small town" scenario, but the catch is that the great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather of Captain Malcolm Reynolds plays the Chief of Police. It is even Nathan Fillion. And he speaks almost exactly the way Mal does.
This is a much better movie than the name implies. I'll probably pick up the DVD eventually.

Did they make a good B-film or a shitty wannabe A-film?

That's a damned good question. I enjoyed it... so whichever description fits better.
There was at least 8 or 9 times when I was laughing out loud at the banter between these people.

Was that the director's intention?

This is a modern day Dead Alive.
This movie has it's tongue firmly in cheek the whole time.
Entertaining enough that I would hope it makes the rounds on TBS and TNT every October, but not good enough to rate any sort of "classic" status.

Nice DVD extras, worth picking it up for that as much as for the movie. Nathan Fillion is a funny funny guy.
