This show on VH1 is a tournament of pop culture trivia. Sixteen teams are going head-to-head in single elimination matches for the title, and a prize of $250,000. The contestants are generally amusing and witty, and geeky enough to be entertaining.

The real charm is the host, though. His delivery is almost deadpan, but hearing him read the lyrics to "Baby Got Back" and the "The Thong Song" in that completely serious monotone is more than a little hilarious. Also the writers on the show have a pretty good sense of humor. As an example:

Teams if you are ready, our first category is Those Talented Baldwin Brothers. All of the questions in this category are about Alec Baldwin.

Zing!

It's a summer show, and is running four nights a week. We're still on the first level of the ladder, though, so there's plenty of time to catch an episode or two.

I keep telling myself I need to seek out two other folk so we could absolutely beat the living shit outta that show. Seriously, it's just bar trivia++. I damn near lived in bars for a period of years.

I would do okay. I miss a lot of the music questions (I know the songs, but not artists or titles), but I do pretty well on everything else.

Science trivia is more my gig though, than pop.

I can kick the shit out of most of the music questions. There's one other dude I know who's knowledge of things like this is vast.

Fuckin' hell. Maybe the three of us should try out next time.

Well, I kept up with/beat the teams I watched on 5 of 12 questions, but they killed me on every tiebreaker (4) I saw. Granted I was comparing myself to the total that both teams had, but I don't think I was in their geek league.

Watched a couple nights ago and I think I would have won most of them.
However, in the bonus rounds I would have lost every single one. Easily! There was one where I knew *one* answer more than the loser, but I'm sure the winner knew several more.

Music and TV seem to be my strong points. They kill me on the movies stuff. I just a) don't watch that many movies and b) don't seem to recall them well.

The tiebreak they use at the end of a series of questions is brutal.

That "music of 2007" category they had the other night, I only knew one.

I missed every single one of a music of 2006 category, so did the contestants.

Movies and TV would be my strong points.

I do good with music lyrics (last night's show I was singing along with the questions without looking), and movie and TV questions not about cast. Basically, if it involves the names of people I suck at it, but everything else I get better than 90% right.

Just saw the 2006 songs one. Holy crap.

After the first question I thought "2006 sucked for music and hopefully will never happen again." After the 2nd question, it sounded like the contestants/audience agreed.

That was hilarious. A early 30s (if that) saying, "I don't want to sound like an old foggie, but these new songs are horrible." Which the audience loved.

I blame American Idol.

I've been forced to watch about 90 minutes of it, total. Do you realize what we're seeing? People are being told who to love from among a field of mediocre talent. The winners get record deals and tons of press. Yet they suck. It's the most insipid bullshit I've eber seen on television, and I've seen "Mama's Family."

That is the bar the music scene in 2006 had to jump.

I keep hearing fucking Daughtry played on the radio up here. The most generic fucking alterna-rock I've ever heard. Fucking pathetic.

& yes, Idol sucks. Most of their contestants suck. & it looks like the winners universally suck.

Just made it to the finals episode. 3 of the 4 teams I thought would make the semis did.
