Synopsis :
A magician (Ed Norton) meets some chick (Jessica "I still can't fucking act but somehow continue to get roles" Biel) that he was separated from at childhood. That chick is now the woman of the plotting prince (Rufus Sewell). Some shit goes down involving the three of them & the local head o' police (Paul Giamatti) must investigate.
Review :
You've seen "The Usual Suspects?" Sub in Norton for Kevin Spacey, make the setting late 19th or early 20th century Europe, & toss in a female lead whose acting abilities shouldn't have gotten her even a role in a goddamn grade school Christmas pageant, & you've got this flick. Fortunately, the rest of the cast turns in a good performance, particularly character actor Giamatti. That being said, the plot is tired, the ending predictable, & the road that gets you there doesn't warrant the $8-10 you'd fork out to see it in the theatre.
Verdict : 2.5 stars. This is almost the definition of "renter."
