For you big fans of the Firefly cast, this is just a heads up about a few guest appearances in other Whedon shows you may or may not be interested in knowing about.
Nathan Fillion (Captian Malcolm Reynolds) plays Cain in three or four episodes of the last season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He's essentially the right-hand man of the main big bad guy of the final season. He fights hard, he speaks in a manner similar to that slightly obscure dialect that Nathan mastered so well for Firefly, and he does some bad stuff. Excellent acting on his part, and on the whole a very powerful character.
Gina Torres (Lt. Zoe Washburn) plays Jasmine in the fourth season of Angel. Her character is has supernatural powers that make it so that anyone seeing her comes under her thrall. With the power of radio and television, she may just take over the whole world, but she certainly completely owns L.A. She plays a very calm and almost hippyish character, yet with a powerful underlying creepiness that gave me the shivers.
Finally, and best of all, Adam Baldwin (Jayne Cobb) plays a character who's name escapses me in the final season of Angel. Like Caine above, he's the representative of the ultimate evil on the show, and he is truely bad ass. His character is a mix of Cary Grant and Agent Smith, charming and cool & collected, yet also powerful and unflinchingly evil. It's almost a complete 180 from his role as Jayne, and it was quite a good performance.
Angel wasn't quite as good as Buffy, IMO, but the series took on enough of a life of its own to deserve seperate consideration as more than a spin-off. I did like the way it ended, though, where (SPOILER ALERT!!) all the main characters end up either very dead or about to be very dead very shortly after the screen goes to credits for the last time, yet they still won the battle and we know they will keep fighting on until their last breath (which was just moments away anyway).
