The gateway ... to gateway drugs.
That said, the team stressed that the larger concerns are twofold: that hookah smoking is often mistakenly perceived as safer and less addictive than cigarettes, and that hookah use may ultimately serve as a "gateway" to cigarette smoking.

This drug dependency chain theory is getting out of hand.

I'd say the far more troubling aspects of hookahs is their association with hipster douchebags and bad jazz or sitar music.

Bar Rescue taught me that hookahs don't really exist outside of major cities.

By major, I mean: NY, LA, Chicago, Miami, and maybe Seattle.

I've seen them in private homes. There are also more than a few hookah bars around where I live.

There's a handful of hookah bars in Houston. And all the head shops have hookahs for sale.

Last time I tried to find a place to buy cigarettes, I had to try 12 "smoke shops" that were actually head shops that didn't sell cigarettes before I found the single tobacco store.
