How rapidly? About the same as it did eight millennia ago.
"What we showed for the first time is, 8,000 years ago, this glacier was capable of thinning at the sorts of rates we are seeing now, and then the second finding was, that thinning went on for several decades, possibly centuries," Bentley said.

They must have been paid off by the oil industry, of course.
EDIT: Alternate explanation is that this is proof that the Atlanteans had cars, and it was their own batch of global warming that sank Atlantis and set back human progress by 8000 years.

While some may see evidence of rapid glacier thinning in the past and again today as evidence that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is nearing a collapse driven by human-caused climate change
What? How could they reach that conclusion?
Ice melted at the same rate 8,000 years ago, and that means "human-caused climate change" is the reason? I must have missed a step there because I'm not following the logic.
