Gun stops a text. Starts a second-degree murder trial.
Voices were raised. Oulson threw a bag of popcorn at Reeves, according to a police report, and then the former Tampa Police Department officer took out a .380 semi-automatic handgun and shot Oulson.
A retired cop, no doubt getting control of the situation so he feels comfortable.

I really am torn in a showdown between a movie cell phone user, and a cop.

Maybe he was allergic to popcorn. Stand your ground?

No Stand Your Ground here. He won't be able to prove his life was in jeopardy unless there was a grenade in that bag of popcorn.
Just a bad combination of a guy who shouldn't have been armed (He's been retired for 20 years!!!!!), and an asshole with a sense of entitlement (Previews or not, put your fucking phone away, and who throws a bag of popcorn at someone? You know expensive that shit is?).
Lots of lives ruined for no reason.

Grrrr. I have to side with the cell phone user on this one. If it happens during the movie the guy deserved a good beating and/or forcible ejection, but that isn't a capital crime.
During the previews the offense is even less.

And which previews? Those early previews that still have the lights on and are mostly coke commercials? Or the real previews with actual movie trailers?
I think texting during the former is fine. Texting during the latter is rude but not a crime. During the movie is right out, of course.

I think we are in agreement.

I was about to respond "and punishable by death", but then I remembered...

Because they know you wont be there... zing!
I like the big event movies when I don't want to wait for the BD. Also it is an excuse to get together and go out with friends sometimes.
