I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I don't think it's a snub; I think he genuinely wanted to be somewhere else. It's not clear whether or not he's still active duty, but I have a feeling that even the most strident Obama-hater in uniform would have a difficult time making this call.
I mean, maybe, I dunno. Maybe not.

I'm with Thib.
Despite who's in charge at any given time, it's about your country, not the person. So any service man or woman would probably attend despite their politics.
I would have attended any event that Bush Sr. or Clinton wanted me to attend.
It would have been more fun with Clinton because we could have gone skirt chasing after the event.

To admit that there may be some thing more important in life than going to the State of the Union - regardless of who is President - is not a snub. It's just true.

I'll say it again: the U.S. gov't takes care of its troops until they come home. Then fuck them, the VA hospitals can deal with them.

It's not even just the substandard health care they receive when they get back. It's pretty much everything.
