We'll just skip the whole "one" and "their" issue. But what exactly was "ignorant" about this?

Fair enough. But, if we take them at face value and say for the sake of discussion that they do indeed believe the statement about race that is assumed to have been made here, in that case would it be fair to call them ignorant?
