My domain renewal is coming up.... it has been something like 10 years since I last renewed it. Doing a little mental arithmetic tells me that in that time span I have spent approximately $1500 on this website. That was sort of surprising to me... you don't really think about the $30 quarterly hosting fee at the time it comes due, but holy shit has it added up.

So.

Is it worth it to me to spend another $1500 to keep it around another decade? Sort of on the fence.

Pretty sure I've paid for a year or two in there.

I will happily chip in for some more, although can a brother get a better search function?

$30/quarter? Damn, what bells/whistles/volume/bandwidth are you paying for?

Ditto Malcolm, but pass the hat/paypal/whatever, I'll chip in.

The price creeps up regularly.

Seriously, though. What package do you have with what host?

Just looked it up, 1and1 "Home Package." I was mistaken, it is bi-annual, and my last billing was for $54.

I'm more than happy to host it on my 1and1 account if you want. I pay 1and1 $96/year for underutilized hosting as it stands.

I have 1&1 Unlimited:
Webspace : Unlimited
Unlimited traffic : Yes
PHP : Yes
Python : Yes
Perl : Yes
MySQL databases : 25
FTP accounts : 50
Mailboxes : 500

If we want to migrate and divvy costs, I'll chip in. Betting most regulars would.

I'm game if you are. On the one hand, I like the forum and file hosting and my email addresses. On the other hand, $.

This leaves some questions.

You can still have the file hosting and email addresses, etc. I just need to figure out how to setup the account. And I assume there's a mysql DB to migrate.

How big is your DB? I thought I was limited to 500MB total, but I just checked. The last 3 I created are 1GB each, so my apparent limit is just 25 DBs, 1GB each.

I believe MY limit was 100MB, and I recently pruned the forum down to 50MBish.

On transition day I can get in and load the forum and import the DB since I have done it a few times and my learning curve should be a little shorter. I hope I still have a copy of the forum software somewhere. Or you can do it if you really want to. I honestly don't care. I would just provide you with the DB backup files.

My current domain registration expires this year on the USMC birthday, which gives us a couple months to arrange the transition. I will just point the domain at the new server when I re-reg.

100MB sounds right, as my first DB has that limit. They must have upped it later, but maybe only for people who changed their plan? I changed mine earlier this year, I think.

I'm comfortable with you doing it, I can be available to help if needed.

We keep the domain on your account? I generally have a sub-directory per domain, not sure if you can do that from another account? I think we can do that by changing the nameservers. I do it for one of my domains, but haven't done it in a while.

Btw, whenever you want to move is fine. If you cancel your 1and1, I think they will prorate/refund? Then, just keep the domain, and we can figure out the nameserver stuff.

I actually have a copy of the forum installer.

Can I set it up on your server before I change the server name on the domain, or do I need to wait? Can't even think straight tonight. All hopped up on Grape Crush.

Does the Ikonboard 2006 installer even run on the latest version of Windows?

Sure, I'll chip in up to $100 a year so I can keep arguing with you concentrated assholes.

Just let me know who to send some money to.

As to hosting I used to use 1 and 1 but switched to Hostgator because cheaper and better. I recently paid them a one-time payment of $147 for the next three years of hosting.

I used to know some mofo that rented server space from his place. Though his wife earned the nickname "She-Beast" and I like avoiding her, especially after the two kids. Wonder if I can just text him and avoid going to his place...

When we fig the finances, post some numbers and we can see how much the average pony up will be.

Can guests vote? Why would anyone vote "no" unless as a joke, yet still visit here?

Is it me or did the site change? Something about the font looks different. Wasn't sure if it was my screen...

I haven't changed anything, cosmetically.

Also have not yet begun transitioning to Catt's server.
