If you missed it, Star Trek released a new show they've been heavily promoting: Starfleet Academy. It is woke AF. There's a clip that has made the rounds that PARAMOUNT RELEASED THEMSELVES!!!!!! and...well...it didn't help sell the show. Here's a screenshot:

Don't they know that show already exists?

YouTuber Nerdrotic went live against the premiere of this new show. He didn't go live, but his stream did. Paramount had Star Trek and a brand show. Nerdrotic just had a Spock action figure sitting on a chair, nothing else.

Guess which one won in the ratings?

I agree with that article too. It's not just embarrassing, it's a referendum. Paramount needs to understand what other studios have also learned the hard way: The mythical "modern audience" doesn't exist.

Officially dead. They should try making a show that appeals to more than 1% of the audience.

Andy Weir has thoughts on Star Trek.
“For instance, as a lifelong Star Trek fan, it’s always bothered me that there is a presumed ‘responsibility’ within Star Trek shows to talk about social issues,” the writer added. “I just want to watch Romulans and the Federation shoot at each other.”
I find that statement odd, given the original ST.
Even when Star Trek is about conflict—and it often is—the series is always engaging in a layer of commentary and allegory. From the Dominion War in Deep Space Nine as a critique and testing of Star Trek‘s utopian worldview to even the Earth-Romulan war Weir seemed to enjoy as part of the original Star Trek as a commentary on the Cold War, there are few battles in Trek‘s history that are simply about one side shooting at another. “Balance of Terror“, the episode about the Romulans and the Federation shooting at each other that is ultimately about them not doing that, even dabbles in a touch of commentary on racial prejudice, when a member of the Enterprise crew sees a Romulan for the first time and is shocked at their similarity to Spock’s appearance, leading to him questioning Spock’s loyalty to the Federation!

But, it's possible to have social commentary, without preaching. And maybe that's the difference for him? The old stuff had social commentary, but stayed neutral and non-preachy?

I think War Games would be a good example. Very much a commentary of the condition of the world at the time, but didn't really specify any good or bad guy/country/team. Basically just said "It's best to avoid this".

So much of what we have to watch now DOES have an agenda. They'll include commentary and you better believe by the end they've made it clear who is right and who is wrong. They'll define the teams and say "This is the wrong team".

And he's apologizing
Open letter to Alex Kurtzman:
Hey, Alex. Andy Weir here. I'm posting to apologize about stuff I said on the Critical Drinker's podcast.
I feel like my quotes were taken out of context as salacious sound bytes. I hope you saw the other parts where I said how much I like you as a person and what a nice guy you are. Also how I like SNW and LD.
I was trying to be funny, but in retrospect it comes off as disrespectful and mean. So I'm sorry for that. I was also trying to be self-deprecating when I said "But they didn't like my pitch so fuck 'em!" but out of context it can read like I actually meant it.
I'm a blunt person - always have been. And it's been 10 years since the media cared what I had to say about anything so I kind of forgot to watch my words when I have a film in theaters. In a couple months I'll be back in my cave writing novels and no one will care again.
Anyway, if you want to talk about it in real time - even if it's just to rip me a new one - I'm happy to hop on the phone or zoom.

Exactly.

The Orville's Moclans are sitting right fucking there to learn from if you're unsure of how to write social commentary without preaching. (Season 4 coming in 2027.)

Stand up thing to do if someone's feelings got hurt, intentionally or not. He didn't say anything that isn't right though.

Kurtzman's run on Trek has been an unquestioned disaster. Audiences aren't tuning in to see a starship full of overweight women and a transgender Klingon shit on straight white men.

Hollywood has become a religious zealot who cannot figure out why people, in their primarily atheist community, aren't attending sermons.
