Taken down after FBI raid.

Hilarious that porn stars/hookers are furious.

From how they're describing it, the FBI didn't shut down backpage. The backpage people did.

Not knowing anything about backpage or the legality of the transactions occurring:

I gathered it was a way to arrange for paid sex. Which, except for a very few locations, is illegal. And since I also believe there are a LOT of people in the sex industry that are there against their will, I don't see how we lost any freedoms here. You weren't free to do any of the stuff being sold there to begin with. So, they shut down the site enabling illegal activities? And made it that much harder for people to profit from sex trafficking.

This is going to increase the number of pimps, which things like Backpage had reduced.

But they should have been free to do it.

I'm all for ending sex trafficking. I'm not for making something illegal that's in high demand, you can give away for free, and you can charge for, but only if you let someone film it.

Ok, but it's not legal right now. So the freedom was already not there. The site going down didn't take any freedom away. Whether prostitution should be legal or not is irrelevant when measuring the amount of freedom that was lost when that page went down.
