FCC is going to dump some rules about media ownership.

The newspaper thing I'm fine with because newspapers are a dying industry. Times change.

I don't know about allowing companies to own a larger percentage of media companies than they did in the past. The one obvious negative is a lack of different voices presenting the news. Imagine if only CNN or FOX was available to 70% of the country as their sole source of news. However, is that such a big deal in a world where the internet is taking over?

There is definitely some cronyism going on with this announcement though. It's pretty obvious palms are being greased.

That sounds legit.

They used to show reruns of MASH during the 11 - 11:30 time slot before they ever hired a news staff. Those MASH reruns were more profitable and higher rated than their news shows. The only segment of NBC24 News that was watched was when Bill Spencer did the weather. That was the highest rated segment in town. With him at a competitor, their ratings had to have tanked even farther. When Raycom owned them they always toyed with the idea of firing the entire news staff.

Remember, they aired a closeup picture of Sharon Stone's exposed vagina and got ZERO complaints because nobody was watching! To be fair, it was during their 4 or 4:30 p.m. news, but still...
