Yay Netflix!

Anthology series about serial killers. Fake ones, not real ones. It appears each season will be 8 episodes and cover one killer.

Here's the story for the first season based on me watching one episode so far:
A couple is murdered on Halloween in their home. 30 years later their kid returns to move into that same house because that's what people do, right? Guess who also returns?

So you're probably already thinking, "This writing is amazing! Did Shakespeare come back to life?"

Well, sit back as I fill you in on an actual scene...

The heroine finds a stash of tapes and a camera. She starts watching them. Next thing you know she's at a friend's asking if he can identify the person in the video via a picture she took on her cell phone. Meanwhile, the crazy neighbor breaks into her house and watches the tape. She then ejects the tape from the camera and written plain as day and in large letters right on the tape is THE FUCKING GUY'S NAME!!!

Did I mention there's also a blatant rip off of Silence of the Lambs?

The killer's look is pretty cool though. More as I continue traveling down this rabbit hole.

Hey look, more stolen script ideas. This time from Seven and The Room.

Finished season one and it's very clear the killer will be different each season, but perhaps the town will stay the same?

The writing was pretty piss poor, but I still maintain the actual killer was pretty cool.

However, that writing... Aside from the stolen ideas, it was cliche and the killer had an incredible ability to be in a lot of places at the same time. Also, they had the ability to act "wrong" whenever they were on camera, but not as the killer. Point being, the writers cheated to hide the killer's identity.

It's October, so I'm all in on horror, and I just hope season 2 is better.

Season 2's kills are FAR more grotesque, but the story is again an issue. It also steals from a couple of big movies, but I can't name the biggest as it'd be an immediate spoiler.

I think the reason the story is a problem is because this is essentially an 8 hour horror movie. Thus, they have to waste time giving us backstories of victims, and you really don't care. Additionally, they have to add a ton of stuff to the main story, which is where inconsistencies start showing up. When the killer is finally revealed, you'll think back to the previous episodes and think, "Yeah, no way in hell did this person pull all this stuff off." Logistically, it doesn't work.

I like the concept of the show, but so far the execution has been lacking.
