Scientology hates it. Means it's probably true.

People have seen it.
It hits HBO tomorrow. I plan to watch it this week.

Watched it off DVR. Turns out the reason they still exist is because the IRS was so fucking corrupt in the late '80s and early '90s, they gave tax-exempt status to Scientology just to avoid the lawsuits. Not kidding. One can only conclude the US legal system is retarded on every level because it lets this organization continue to exist in its current state. There are a couple Travolta interview clips. They might make you hate him more than you already do. Lord of Illusions was on this past weekend. I couldn't help but notice how Nix's followers seem as devoid of will and reason as the Scientologists. L. Ron Hubbard may have been crazier than Nix.
Indiewire's Max O'Connell criticised the church's approach as counter-productive, predicting that "their campaign against the film is going to be the best publicity that Alex Gibney and company could ever hope for, if also a hassle for critics and filmmakers and (this is no small thing) a nightmare for the ex-CoS members who dared to speak out against the Church's practices. But then, they don't seem terribly aware that attacking everyone who criticizes you doesn't do a lot of good for your image."
Because they still follow L. Ron Hubbard's social tactics, which sound like they were written by the dude who's hot for Meg Griffin.

How'd HBO have the balls to air this movie?
HBO had earlier said that it had put "probably 160 lawyers" onto the task of reviewing the film in anticipation of challenges from the notoriously litigious church.

Did someone merge threads wrong, or something?

... he was asked ... if he would watch the doc. "No, I haven't," he responded. "And I don't really care to."
Not surprising, but if refuses to check it out at all then his opinion is worthless.

Travolta:
"Sometimes when something really works well, it becomes a target," he said.

I've saved lives with it and saved my own life several times. Through my loss of my son, it helped me every step of the way for two years solid, and here I am."
Travolta and wife Kelly Preston’s eldest son, Jett, died suddenly at the age of 16 in 2009 from a seizure. Jett had a history of seizures and was autistic.
Don't Scientologists think medical conditions are because of the bad alien spirits, or whatever? I wonder if they tried to pray their son healthy.

They also believe children should be born in silence. Not kidding.

Yay my friend's HBOGo account!
Really strong documentary about Scientology.
No idea how anyone can be associated with that "religion".
More importantly, I have serious questions about how our government can continue to ignore the fact that they're clearly not a religion and abusing their members.
Highly recommended.
