For some reason before watching I didn't think this was actually an opera, the same way Shakespeare's "comedies" aren't actually comedies. I thought it was just descriptive like "his life was a Greek tragedy."
But yeah, I don't think there is any spoken word, it's all in song.
It's about the near dystopian future when replacement human organs are in great demand, and the guy running the replacement organ company is allowed to repossess them if you fall behind on your payments.
There is a love triangle and a plan for revenge and good intentions with bad execution and a little insanity.
60% of the musical numbers are kind of dumb, like typical broadway faux-brilliant bullshit. 40% of the songs are actually rather clever and enjoyable.
Giles from Buffy was in it. "Blind Mags" was my fave. She was haunting and her songs were haunting.
Does anyone know if this was based on a real opera/musical?
