The Punisher - Yay! Netflix
Without going into a long review...
If you know who The Punisher is then you'll be interested in seeing this film.
If you don't, well, this is the ultimate revenge film.
Very violent. Lots of action. Some funny moments. Too many touching moments.
Still, I liked it a LOT better than Dolph's 80s version.
I think Frank is portrayed as a bit too human in this version, but he still makes a hell of an impact. I'm not too sure how true to the revamped Punisher this storyline is, but I know the details have changed from the original Punisher storyline.
Worth a rental for action fans.
6 out of 10.

I've always like Dolph as well. I keep telling people that if he could act, he'd be a great actor.
I mean, if he took a year or two off and studied acting, he could have become a high-priced superstar.
He does okay in roles where he doesn't have to act too human. (like the killer preacher in Johnny Mnemonic and Drago in that Rocky Part Whatever).

Tom Jane, Will Patton, John Travolta, Rebecca Romijn-Stams, Ben Foster, Roy Scheider
Violence, Some car chases, More violence, People being killed in unique ways. I enjoyed it. Some things weren't possible but the action kept my mind off that. Strong 7 out of 10

In marriage there is always one person right. And the other one is the husband.
More so than the Kill Bills?
I would argue "Yes".
Kill Bill 1 & 2 were better films with better talent, but The Punisher involved family. Also, while the Bride's journey was more "epic" it didn't feel like a one way path of hatred.
Frank Castle had one purpose: vengence. His journey doesn't stop until his heart does. The Bride's journey ended with Bill.
The family concepts in Kill Bill were a stretch. They were simply aquaintances and one little girl. Plus, if you follow the timeline and figure out the Bride's relationship, you'll see that she realy couldn't have known her groom that long.
In the Punisher the family was actual family.
As for emotional response, its not a contest.
If someone comes for you, you find the killer and end it. (Kill Bill)
If someone takes out your whole family, you don't rest until you're skull fucking the asshole on the graves of his family. (The Punisher)

Finally caught the majority of this film. Don't like how they did the Punisher in this. He's way, way too human & vulnerable. He should just be a bastard w\ a minimal conscience.

This movie was schizophrenic, it didn't know what it wanted to be.
It sets up the tragedy of his family getting wiped out, including his young son. There's about 4 months with a "witch doctor" healing him, which we don't see. He sets up shop back where the bad guys are.
Then we meet the neighbors, and have many light hearted moments.
Then he starts setting up the bad guys for a fall.
Then there's a fight full of wackiness with the giant russian guy.
Then he puts a blade through a guy's skull.
The musical score was tacky and inappropriate, too. Often took me out of the movie.
I said this before about some other movie... I think John Wick has ruined me for other revenge flicks. For all of Keanu's wooden acting, he made me believe he would go kill 82 people over a stolen car and a dead dog. In this movie, Frank Castle didn't convince me in spite of having a much more believable reason for a revenge rampage.
I heard the sequel was better?

The sequel recast the Punisher and ups the violence a lot. It was based on the interpretation in the "adult" series at the time. Production values are noticeably lower.

"Dirty Laundry" in this thread is the best Punisher movie to date.
Of the three theater release Punisher films, none are memorable, but I remember Thomas Jane being the best.
Marvel was responsible for none of those films, but they do own the rights now.

The dude who was most believable kicking ass was Ray Stevenson in Warzone. They kept burdening things with plot and dialog, though.
