Jake Gyllenhaal has a face that you just want to punch. From the start of the film, you will despise his character. Willing to do anything and hurt anyone in the name of making a buck, he is eventually led to independent news video production. Specifically, night time LA news reporting. He drives around and videotapes news and sells the recordings to news outlets. Basically, the idea is that these guys get there before anyone else.

Jake is easily one of the most unlikeable characters in cinematic history. This is not hyperbole. He does NOTHING redeeming in the movie. Not one single thing.

I'm not sure if they were telling a story here or damning MSM in this country. You certainly won't walk away with a warm and fuzzy feeling towards how the news is gathered and reported. (It should be noted that ALL news station are shown as equally evil, so politics never enter the film. There's no "Fox News/CNN right wing, left wing stuff" at all.)

The whole film is a character piece, and while there's action, the pace is fast enough to keep your interest, but so slow that future viewings would probably never happen.

Do not come looking for an uplifting film. This is about how some people are bastard coated bastards with bastard filling.

Worth seeing once, but have a comedy waiting to be watched afterwards.
