Dexter - Season 4

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Dexter is living the dream. He's got a house in the suburbs, a wife, three kids (including new baby Harrison), a good job, and he's still a very active serial killer.

Enter John Lithgow as the Trinity killer.

This season also marks the return of FBI Special Agent Lundy who is now retired, but wants to catch Trinity.

Lots of key developments for other cast members too, most notably Dexter's sister Deb. Although, keep an eye on Quinn...

Of all the seasons, this was probably my least favorite. It's still good, but it had a lot less tension this year. I think the pacing was off and the fact that Dexter wasn't really matching wits with his foe for most of the season hurt the show. The majority of the middle part of the season never even felt like Dexter was in any danger, let alone in danger of having his identity revealed.

Great acting as always, and a powerful finale that is as cool as it is depressing.

It's funny to me that this review sounds negative, yet it's still one of the best shows on TV.

If you're not watching Dexter, go grab Season 1 and give it a shot.

While season 4 was still worth watching, I do think it was a low point in the series. Season 5 so far is much more interesting.

I am not watching season 5 as I wait for the DVD sets. However, I've heard people talking about it, and the only thing I've picked up that worries me is it sounds like Quinn is the next Sgt. Doakes.

I realize that type of storyline with his surrounding characters is natural based on what he does and where he works, but I hope they play it differently.

How's Julia Styles? I've always thought she was "odd hot".

She's totally batshit loco, although she's got good reason to be. But they would make an interesting couple. I hope she's sticking around for awhile.

Just finished season 5. Over all, I find the shows expectations for suspension of disbelief getting larger and larger. In other words, there's more and more times where I'm having a problem with the plot. They will build up to something and a bunch of shit happens and then they cut to the future where it's obvious that everything just worked out, but they don't explain how. I guess by now I'm just supposed to accept that he's 'just that good'. He's leaving DNA evidence all over the place that they never show him going back to clean up or explain why it's not being found, etc. He's getting way too lucky as well. FAR less planning than he used to do and things just keep working out. Him using skills he's never used before to get out of situations and you just have to believe, "oh, he knows how to fly a commercial airliner". Granted, he hasn't done that, I don't want to drop spoilers. But, he's doing shit that makes me ask "Now how does he know how to do that". "what did he do with that HUGE chunk of evidence?" "How'd he get that body out of there without anyone noticing" Etc. He's doing more and more in the open and no one's noticing anything.

Expectations for suspension of disbelief are getting too high, in my opinion.

Hey you buttholes, talking about season 5 in the season 4 thread.

I finished Breaking Bad and decided to finish out this series from where I left it years ago in the middle of the season which featured a naked John Lithgow. Taking a break was a good decision as I enjoyed finishing it. Looking forward to season 5 which I now understand contains a "loco" Julie Styles who I have heard described as "odd hot."

I purposely spoiled myself for the important parts, like I knew what was going to happen to Rita. I never liked her except for when she was naked, so, you know.

I was also getting a serious "Doakes" vibe from Quinn. I bet a dollar he doesn't survive the series.

Is she still hot?
It's not me, it's someone else.

Random road thought:

Dexter works at Miami Metro, in the homicide department.

Was Crockett and Tubs and Lieutenant Adama in the same building (30 years ago), across the hall in vice?

AND.... Michael Westen (Burn Notice) was causing people to get snuffed from time to time in Miami, also in this time frame.

Miami was a violent place there for a while.
