And for HBO, no less.

Seems like it's still early in the process.

A pretty cerebral book(s).... not much actiony-things happen. Hope they can make it interesting for the straight people.

Oh fuck that noise.

Nothing could ever be that bad again. That was the low point of human history.

I've had this conversation a number of times with coworkers. Starship Troopers really wasn't that bad. I had the advantage of seeing the movie first. The book, as written, would have bored everyone to tears and been just a craptacular film. It was a thesis on an idea about civics and citizenship with a war story sprinkled around the edges and filling in the gaps to produce something of a story. Now the movie completely changed the war story part, but was pretty much near 100% on point with the central thesis of the book.

Granted they summed it up in about 20 minutes of dialog throughout the movie which left the rest of the time for bug killing, but whatever.

I don't even know who you are anymore.

No, it was mocking the book. It presented the society as a brainwashed war-hungry totalitarian regime. It completely failed in every way to comprehend - much less communicate - the ideas about civics and citizenship presented in the book.

I don't think it was mocking the book. It was mocking society in general the same way he did with Robocop.

They had some pretty white South Americans at Rush's concert in Rio. You'd have to be a pretty white South American to be at a Canadian trio prog-rock concert, though.
