I'd noted elsewhere that no Republican since Roe v Wade has won without a majority Catholic vote. That trend held this time with Trump getting a +7 among Catholics. This surprised me because I figured the pro immigration stance that Catholics usually hold would hurt Trump. Apparently Obama's suing nuns hurt Hillary more.

Having given the family drama a day to soak in, it suddenly occurred to me this morning that the main offenders are now two broken, cranky old women. The other day I still had the mindset I've had since I was a little boy, that they were grownups and I was young and should respect them... and now I realize that just like with my dementia riddled MIL, I should just be nodding and smiling and saying "bless their hearts." It took this moment to really see myself as one of the adults in this family, and not one of the kids... old habits... and really the thoughts and words of crazy people don't have an affect on me. They are spewing "bigots and racists!" just like the old people in the 80s and 90s had to be continually reminded to stop calling them the "coloreds."

As for the younger women everywhere huddling down and "I now have to explain to my daughter how what he does is not ok," and being deathly afraid of rape all of a sudden.... well, there's less of an excuse, unless you want to say they have PTSD from 8 years of liberals controlling the media and government, telling you what to be afraid of. Then, again, they are to be pitied.

There are a few things about the map comparison which reek of bullshit:

1) There are some huge crime hotspots where there's no blue.

2)Alaska's missing. Its rate is off the fucking scale.
From 2014...

Alaska has a high crime rate figure of 635.8 per 100, 000 population. It is followed by Nevada which has 635.6 per 100, 000 population. These states are followed by Tennessee and New Mexico as well as Florida

So one wonders how the east coast is getting lit up along while ... just fuck it. Here are numbers:

3) So something's fucked about that map unless there's been a drastic shift in the last two years. Let's pick a random state, Utah, with a crime rate of 215.6. Yeah, it's 43rd, but it should still register a blip more than the states below it. Except Virginia has a shitload more red and even Idaho warrants a dot. Minnesota and Oregon should have near parity. Yet, check out the hotspot in the former that's not in the later. Texas and Oklahoma are nearly equal, but there's nowhere near as many hotspots in OK as TX. I could take the dots from TX and blanket cover OK. Arizona comes in at 399.9, NM at 597.4. Yet who looks worse from the crime rate map? Ari-fucking-zona. SD should have a NC number of hotspots. I could go on, but it appears to be bullshit.

It looks like it's likely not per capita but total incidents. Besides the words "Crime Rate" are clearly not part of the original but added on by whoever meme'd it up so they aren't indicative.

A couple of stats to throw out in response to the question of whether the GOP still needs their traditional base.

Trump won with fewer actual votes than McCain or Romney lost with. The black voter was massively MIA compared to 2008 and 2012. I wonder if BLM, while intended for the last year to be a GOTV vehicle ended up hurting the Democrats. Democrats want their base angry at Republicans. BLM just made them angry at anyone not black and they ran a white woman.

Another stat which had me thinking this thing would tip in Hillary's favor was the enthusiasm gap. About a week prior to election day, 54% of Hilary voters said they were voting for Hilary. Only 42% of Trump voters said they were voting for Trump (as opposed to against the other candidate). This is almost always a bad thing for a candidate. Except in this case the dislike/distrust of Hillary was extreme enough to matter, apparently.

So unless Democrats keep running Hillary or other vile white people, I think the GOP should hold off a minute on jettisoning their base voters.

Opponents of this idea think that outlook is wrong and "deplorable" and just bad overall.

But now after the election, look who is rioting and signing petitions to Burn it All Down.... the very people who always said the concept was wrong.

It made me realize that I always knew it would be the so-called liberals trying to start the fires.

But more to your point, this election cycle has convinced me there isn't a dimes worth of difference in 90% of the left and the right. After spending a decade in the 90's railing about how character matters, the right made every argument to defend Trump that the left did to defend Clinton. And the left suddenly decided that character suddenly matters except they will pretend that Hillary was married to some other guy apparently. Not to mention her own character flaws. I feel like Davey Crockett telling congress "to hell with you all, I'm going to Texas". If there were an equivalent today.

If I did that, then I wouldn't be talking to anyone I know except 3P supporters and non-voters. On one hand, I have the smugger than all motherfucking shit Drumpfers who called me "pro-Hillary" several times when I explained why I wouldn't vote for their walking orange asshole of a candidate that makes me long for the days of rule by tyrant in Athens. On the other hand, I have the near maniacal Hillary toadies that accuse me of functionally contributing to the rise of Dipshit Donnie Douchebag because I couldn't bring myself to vote for the Alien Queen.
