I think a lot of it also had to do with adding the pain scale as a fifth vital sign. Every other vital is taken by a professional. Then they turn around and ask you to self report your level of pain.
And I understand the need for different drugs that do the same thing. Some drugs are not very effective on some people while more effective on others. My wife is much like Catt described. Over the counter stuff is about as effective as to oxy.

Practice caution. It didn't occur to me that you said anything risky, but follow your gut.

I'm guessing his post mentioned that these cases aren't about manufacturers making a product that users then abused, but rather manufacturers getting caught purposely pushing drugs they knew were addictive and would kill people. However, they also knew they'd make lots of money off the addictive drugs. The manufacturers themselves were doing sketchy shit and were caught, that's why they're being sued.
I say that just barely reading the news articles about the case.
