I think the article said Trump doesn't see the need to break up Google.

My tech drive home podcast said Google admitted in court today that the web is dying. They tried backtracking, but they had to considering where their money comes from.

The Dead Internet Theory is more than likely a reality:
The Dead Internet Theory (DIT) suggests that much of today's internet, particularly social media, is dominated by non-human activity, AI-generated content, and corporate agendas, leading to a decline in authentic human interaction.
I do not think it's EVERYTHING yet, but I would wager you see a lot more than you realize.

In the past, someone would step in and say something about...oh what the fuck is it called...the ID thing. He's not wrong, and it really is the only way this gets fixed.

It's honestly a win-win-win/lose. That's business-government-us.

If every account was guaranteed to be tied to a real person, businesses could more accurately track their consumers and cater to them.

If every account was guaranteed to be tied to a real person, the government could track the crazies.

If every account was guaranteed to be tied to a real person, we'd know we're not talking to bots, and 1% of the population would act nicer online. However, now the government and businesses can track your activity, which sucks.

It'll be very interesting to see what future LLMs look like when they are being trained on 90% AI (more or less) content.

We're going to create AIs that would be at home in the Idiocracy universe.

Credit where it's due: Today's Halloween Ms. Pac-Man is a fun piece of nostalgia.

153,070 first try

The Ms Pacman is a little too fast, AI varies from the originals, but still fun - maybe too easy :)

Ms PacMan was such a good game. One of the best ever, the rare sequel that's better than the original.

Credit where it's due: Google is about to crack down on assholes who disable or trick your browser's back button.

This is a great move for internet users.

Hundreds of millions or billions of installations add up to thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions globally from data transfer, even though each is a one-time event.
This is such a stupid comment.

It is, and they're clearly trying to be dramatic. A similar argument was used back when Apple did the U2 album push to iPhone users, except that was about using people's bandwidth.

Ultimately, the fact that Google is pushing down an AI agent should be enough. No need to embellish.

Their use of AI to write their articles adds up to tonnes of carbon emissions too.

This is a pretty big deal and something many have predicted will be coming. Websites are going to start losing traffic to AI. The dead internet theory is in full effect.

This, like anything, has pros and cons. The biggest being Google becoming a "single source of truth", which is something they've consistently proven they are not.

OTOH, youtube lite is now free in our $199/year Google 5TB storage plan, so there's that.

DuckDuckGo has been trending all day on this news.

Has Google made themselves a big enough brand that people won't switch? I'm skeptical.

Just depends on how this goes.
