HOLY SHIT I JUST TRIED IT AND IT WORKS!!!!!!!!

I tried it on two other CDs and it did not work nearly as well on those.

The first one I used was old. There was no bubbling when I heated the CD.

The next two were newer and had tiny bubbles when they were heated. They popped really quick instead of turning into a long tube.

A supersonic M-16 round has a max range of 3600m, or about 2 and a quarter miles. At the equator the earth has a circumference of about 25k miles. Figure middle latitudes of the United States, approximately half way up the northern equator, and we're talking about maybe 18k miles (not going to do the math). 2 miles out of 18k is so close to zero change in elevation due to curvature that it might as well be zero.
