Book - HP and the Deathly Hallows *spoilers* - *spoiler thread*

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Just finished the book this weekend. It was enjoyable. Some of it felt like she was pulling rabbits out of a hat to tie up loose ends. No pun intended. For instance, Griphook the goblin had the sword of Griffendor after the bank heist (loved that) and then Neville pulls it out of the sorting hat when its on fire. OK so Harry did that in the second book but there is now a pissed off, confused goblin gunning for Harry now. Then the Elder Wand BS. That kind of pissed me off. Draco never even got close to the wand and he's its master? That's fucking convenient.

And yes the duel between Molly and Bellatrix was great
Wadda mean? Other people can read this?!

Disconjunct thoughts:

- I thought Snape's memories were well done. My wife, who hadn't read the last book, gave out an audible "OOOooohhh..." so I guess it means it was explained well enough for her. Heard some sniffles around the theater.

- Overall, the movie was done well. I greatly enjoyed the opening scene, with Snape all alone, silently overlooking the school.... I thought it was a very well done "Show, don't tell."

- Speaking of which, the rest of the movie handled things so well, it felt a little clunky when they had to exposition in some of the complicated wand-domination stuff.

- Voldemort hugging Draco... "Awkwarrrd!" Neat way to show Voldemort had no idea how to mimic a warm emotion. And the way he almost had convulsions when Neville interrupted him..... that was the actor's best emote of all of the movies.

- Not sure why they felt they had to change some things near the end... it is established in the movies that Harry was originally protected by his mother's love, so strong she was willing to die for him. In the book it was Harry's love for his friends that protected them when he died, so the burning Sorting Hat didn't hurt Neville, which gave him his awesome moment. They sort of took some of Neville's awesome moment away with the way they did things, having him get knocked out and sort of befuddled and stumbling through the scene. Maybe I will feel differently with further watches when I am not thinking, "Why did they change this?"

- They could have given more individual moments during the battle... I remember a lot more "this person vs. that person" moments in the book which would have made things feel slightly more... dangerous? than the general melee we saw in some scenes.

- Filch trying to sweep up tons of rubble with a broom was very distracting to the scene they were showing. Slapstick in the middle of a serious moment of loss. That scene was tone deaf.

- It was mentioned that in the book you'd have a seriously pissed off goblin somewhere, whose sword vanished. The movie took care of that.

- Loved the scene with Snape threatening the students, Harry stepping forward with his "I've discovered a very serious breach in Hogwart's security" trash talk, and McMonigal attacking Snape.... with Snape not fighting back.....

It seems like I am nitpicking, but I really enjoyed this movie, more so than any other of the series. Sorta wanna go see it again, which is a first for a Potter movie.... I was typically more than content to wait for the DVD.

There was applause at the end of the movie.
