My thought is that if your name comes up as a CCW holder, that's probable cause. So yeah, extra ass licking is probably called for.

Very different dynamics come into play from shooting a paper target and shooting at someone that's shooting back at you. Even between a paper target and a game animal. The stats we were given during out CCW class was civilians average a 7% hit rate and cops around 14% in actual firefights. One guy got into a firefight with an armed intruder and both emptied their weapons at each other between the doorways of two bedrooms across the hallway at each other at a range of about 5 feet. The burglar ended up running out and neither person was hit.

There is a written test that the instructor went through question by question, telling us the correct answers.
He passed unloaded weapons around, and twice my neighbor handed me a gun and I was looking right down the barrel.
Next we are firing live rounds and I am very nervous... About these other yahoos having loaded guns near me.

That's why I don't believe everyone should own a weapon. And most anti-gun people seem to have serious anger management issues leading me to understand why they don't think people should have guns. They thing everyone is screwed up in the head like them.

No one got shot during live fire, at least while I was there.... people fired in the order they arrived, and I was early and #3, so I fired, got my certificate, and was out of there before the yahoos even touched a loaded weapon... thank god.

Got my appointment with the sheriff's department on Thursday, to formally apply for the CCW permit. They've already begun my background check to ensure I'm not a felon.

I have a CCDW permit. I very rarely carry (pretty much only when hiking), but I like having the option to.
I had the same experience in class. We went through every answer on the test, a gun was passed around (he chose mine from the inspection pile, because it was the same gun he used as his secondary while on duty), we watched a video (or, at least a video was played and we had the option to watch), then we took the test.
After we all passed we walked to the range.
My only regret was not shooting first. Nobody wanted to shoot first, but once someone broke the ice there was a big line and I had to stand around for the better part of an hour before it was my turn.
There were 20-something people in the class. We each fired 20 shots and I think I saw a total of two shots that strayed off the human outline.
There were a few couples in the class, which I thought was cool. The class would have been more fun with someone else there.

KY calls it a permit to Carry a Concealed Deadly Weapon. It is not limited to firearms.
From the KY CCDW page:
Deadly Weapons
As used in the Kentucky Penal Code, (See KRS 500.080.) "Deadly weapon" means any
of the following:
(a) A weapon of mass destruction;
(b) Any weapon from which a shot, readily capable of producing death or other
serious physical injury, may be discharged;
© Any knife other than an ordinary pocket knife or hunting knife;
(d) Billy, nightstick, or club;
(e) Blackjack or slapjack;
(f) Nunchaku karate sticks;
(g) Shuriken or death star; or
(h) Artificial knuckles made from metal, plastic, or other similar hard material;
I can legally carry a lot of stuff.

We had a class of 7, one didn't show up and he locks the door at 8am with a big ol' FUCK YOU. It says right on his website that if you're late don't bother coming, because he isn't going to "disrupt class for the people who are able to follow simple rules." He said the chick was 100% prepaid, too, not just the $50 deposit. $110.
He told us not to bring our own guns, he will supply everything. Dude has an arsenal. And he keeps every gun loaded.... he would unload the mag and clear the chamber before passing different ones around, then reload with a "A gun without ammo is like a car without wheels" and put it aside.
He also loved laser grips.... every single handgun he passed around had one. They're actually pretty cool, I may get one for my concealed carry weapon. No need for aiming in what's probably a tense situation.
And he admitted to being an alcoholic with a minor drug problem.
So it was good times.
He told me to recommend him peeps, and usually I like wild and crazy fuckers like him... but goddam. My recommendation comes with a warning.
