Bill Murray weighs in.
Meanwhile, the Golden Globe nominee has one thing to say to those Internet trolls who continually bash the women behind their computer screens.

"One minute after they type that, their mom's like 'Get upstairs and take out the garbage. You're 45 years old.'"
Here's another article that says you must like the movie or be sexist, AND it bashes the original to boot.
Sure, it has its moments - mostly Bill Murray-related - but it’s an overrated, immature special FX-fest. A shallow, high-concept star vehicle for Saturday Night Live alumni in which not all the jokes land. Fans always rave about its “endlessly quotable one-liners” but have you ever heard anyone actually quoting it?
"Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say YES."
How come Ghostbusters has acquired this revered reputation over the last 32 years? Nostalgia, pure and simple. Fanboys who were the pubescent target market at the time are now angry middle-aged men, fiercely over-protective of the things they liked in their formative years.
...
This talk of it being a “classic” whose “legacy” the remake is “destroying” is more comically over-the-top than the film itself. These men ain't afraid of no ghost - but they are afraid of change.
Fucking wow. Allegedly written by a dude.

I regularly hear the following used in normal conversation and in proper context:

“Cats and dogs living together; mass hysteria!”
“Tell him about the twinkie.”
“Nice shooting, Tex!”
“If there’s a steady paycheck in it? I’ll believe anything you say.”
“I’ve quit better jobs than this.”
“There is no Dana. Only Zuul.”
“I am...[the] Keymaster.... Are you the Gatekeeper?”
“You will perish in flame! You and all your kind!”
“Yes, it’s true. This man has no dick.”
“I’ve seen shit that’ll turn you white.”
“I have a[n]...idea. We cross the streams.”

Review.
Paul Feig's all-female reboot is a much more timid, less empowering example of big-screen gender reversal than the recent 'Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates'
Ouch.

It was ok, would have been better if it wasn't in the shadow of the movie they were rebooting, because you can't help but compare, and the original is still beloved amongst those with the money to spend to watch movies.

My fave Ghostbuster was not-Egon.

The most unrealistic part about the movie was them living in NYC and chowing down on Papa John's pizza.

The stupidest part was how their brainless male receptionist suddenly, out-of-characteristically, decides he want to be a Ghostbuster and does all that offscreen prep when for most of the movie he literally doesn't know the difference between his ears and his eyes. That scene screamed "Ghostbusters II."

But all in all, I give it a solid C. Stay after the credits.

It finished second this weekend. It'll be interesting to see what the drop off is next weekend.

I wonder if the "all-male" GB movie will bury this one.

Darn misogynists, killing a great movie like that. There can be no other possible explanation.

Hollywood admits that maybe making this movie the battering ram of their social justice movement maybe wasn't the best marketing strategy.

http://heatst.com/culture-wars/endless- ... ia-admits/
...the culture war surrounding it was such an enormous turn-off for everyone who isn’t an SJW that it bombed commercially – and will presumably discourage studios from repeating such stunts.

By contrast, the happily un-PC Bad Moms has been a rip-roaring success, because it remembers that comedy films are not vehicles for advancing a progressive agenda – but a chance to chill out and laugh at dumb crap.

The weekend before Ghostbusters was released, our sister site the Cut wrote “Seeing Ghostbusters on Opening Weekend Could Actually Help Fix Hollywood Sexism.” Though the point was correct—Hollywood is in the business of repeating things that work
Whoa, whoa, whoa, what? Fuck forbid it's for the art or creative process or the host of other bullshit they give themselves awards for. This is the type of shit Frank Zappa shredded the music industry for.
Here's Frank Zappa explaining what went wrong with the music industry -- it all went sour when the clueless, cigar-chomping old guys hired hippies who "understood music" to do the picking.
Except instead of hippies, we now have hipsters.
By contrast, the happily un-PC Bad Moms has been a rip-roaring success, because it remembers that comedy films are not vehicles for advancing a progressive agenda – but a chance to chill out and laugh at dumb crap it didn't blow its entire budget on advertising and special effects.
Fixed.

You guys recently referencing this movie in the thread for the new new one coming out made me finally see this one.

It sucks, but you already know that.

There were chuckles to be found, particularly surrounding Chris Hemsworth's performance (not necessarily the jokes about his character, but how he played it). I'm amazed that so many funny people were involved in this movie, and a LOT of the jokes were recycled hackneyed shit or the lowest fruit hanging from the tree type garbage.

What was with all the weapons, how they worked, and how they affected the ghosts? That fight scene in the mist was just filmmaking trash.

Why use the exact same story lines from the first movie, and why mix them with elements of the second? Here's a thought, come up with your own shit! FYI: For those claiming sexism, this is the same criticism The Force Awakens received.

I liked all the actors and actresses in this movie, but found it hard to watch them clearly struggle through unfunny scenes and material. They knew they were making a turd.

The #woke movement may have started with good intentions. It's good to try and better yourself. But when they flew the flag of claiming the only reason people hated this movie was misogyny, #woke became another lie, good only for a punchline. And yet, they gather in their groups, and think themselves superior to everyone else.

It has quickly become Hollywood's "go to" for countering criticism, and is doing more to harm their cause and ignite hatred than the people they claim to be doing just that.

Paul Feig explains his theory for why this version of Ghostbusters failed: Trump.

How about the simple fact that the movie sucked Paul? I've enjoyed your work (and the entire cast's) elsewhere, but this film was a steaming sack of shit.

Why can't Hollywood accept that everything that makes isn't gold?
