I'm guessing it'll still be cops sitting on the side of the road with laser radar that includes an encrypted sign/countersign system to allow self-driving cars to verify they are on auto and be ignored.

So whatever you are using now to block laser radar might still work if it can fool the device into thinking your car doesn't exist. Otherwise it'll also need to fake an encrypted verification signal in real time.

I'll take the odds on hacking that for the remainder of my life. The complexity can't outstrip the what the cops carry around for hardware, and government is chronically technologically incompetent. And they'll need either a wireless connection or immense list of keys on hand to make the system work, anything else seems easily breakable or too limited. If they rely on wireless, I can destroy the signal or hijack it.

Au Bon Pain near where I'm working in PHL. Good bakery fare chain that's all over. Normally a safe option.

First time I went there, not many customers, asked them about a menu item and if they could heat me up a cinnamon bun for me. They did, but wow, total dicks about everything.

Figured they were having a bad day. Brushed it off. Next time I go get a similar disdainy kind of attitude - but damn the coffee was out and I wanted the breakfast blend.

Went to a few more spots instead for breakfast, but today gave them one more chance. Selected a few items, got my coffee, go to the only open register of 4. Plenty of people behind the counter, so I pull out my card and wait. A few minutes goes by. A guy walks up with a similar amount of stuff. Knows the crew working. Suddenly they care about customers. Manager swipes her card, opens one the closed registers, takes the guys order, and do their transaction. I'm looking at this confused, and then starting to get pissed.

Just left my shit on the counter and walked out. WTF?

It's not worth the aggravation. The 7-11 down the street has inferior food, but the cashier is nice, doesn't ruin my morning by starting me off all hot. Winner everytime.

My parents came from FL to Cary few years before I was born. Were still considered Yankees at first. Central Florida and Jacksonville are still pretty white-cracker-south though. Eventually everyone got on the same page.
