Good Feels Thread

This is a completely unoriginal idea. Reddit definitely had it, if not first, then maybe done-best-currently. I think we should give it a shot, because between politics and social media, it's rough out there.

I feel like I read only bad news. Or scary news, or news meant to get me angry. There should be a place where we just post good feels type content. This should perhaps belong in the Internet Links thread. Up to ya'll.

I'll start:

More NZ stuff. Taupo is where you go for extreme sports on the North Island. Cat had a bucket list item she wanted to tick off, and she wanted to go first...

So she did

Awesome. I want to do that some day. Though, wife and I have decided that things that could kill us have to wait until the kids are older.

It was pretty damn fun. Not sure how dangerous it was - I figured we have other hobbies that are worse. Probably whiplash is the most common issue. Wife was feeling it in her neck the next day.

We went diving in that river afterwards, was pretty dang cool. Hadn't ever done that before. Freshwater is easier to free dive in, but not as exciting without the possibilities of sharks and marine mammals. Good workout swimming back upstream to the car. I'd share some footage to the diving thread but I fucked up and deleted the GoPro video from that day. If not for the bungee companies footage we'd have been SOL.

It's probably not that dangerous, but: motorcycles, bungee jumping, and sky-diving are all on my wife's list.

Ha - that's was my wife's list too, they would get along. I told her to pick one of the last two on the trip.

Fuck a motorcycle though. The guys flying around on the lane dividers in CA will never not freak me out.

There with you. I'd done enough zip lines as a kid in summer camps to know what it was generally like. Exhilarating, but short. Bucket list item.

But she's been game for all my crazy stuff, so I needed to oblige.

Understand. I guess there are those that can't understand the thrill of sitting up in a tree freezing your ass off waiting for Bambi to come by and shoot.

Ha - yup. I'm probably one of those. But everyone has their own hobbies and what not.

I LOVED bird hunting with dogs and a shotgun, though. I like moving around a lot while hunting, on land and underwater.

e: bonus points if you had to worry about something bigger than you, like a bear, coming and trying to steal dead bambi from you. That's the best spearfishing analogy I got.

I can appreciate that. There's something about hunting that connects to our primal selves, I think.

to be honest, I've always had this fantasy of dropping out of a tree onto a buck and plunging a large knife into its heart.

That's the only hunting I ever did. But I didn't get a shotgun since I was so young, they gave me a lever-action 22 long rifle. After a little practice, though, I still outperformed all my shotgun-wielding cousins because they hadn't learned the fundamentals like I had to. I also got really good at shooting clay pigeons with that rifle. I've always been much better with a real rifle than I'll ever be in any FPS game.

Sometimes I miss that rifle.

Play Assassin's Creed III. You can do that with all sorts of wildlife.

And Brits.
